A protester was shot in Khartoum by security services

A protester was shot in Khartoum by security services, despite US sanctions against systematic and widespread use of extreme violence. Central Comm of Sudan Doctors: Assem Hasab Al-Rasoul, in his second decade of life, died after being shot in the chest. The coup authority is still using deadly violence against peaceful protesters who are still committed to nonviolence, which has proven its strength against bullets and the security arsenal. Resistance Committees call for another protest April 6. International and regional mediators, in vain, urged military authorities to stop violence against protests. Sudan Tribune

A protester has been killed as thousands rallied against last year’s military coup and worsening living conditions. 200 detained by security forces since the start of the crackdown…political figures and anti-coup activists among detained. US imposed sanctions on Central Reserve Police accusing it of using excessive force. Prices of food, fuel and basic commodities soared, driven higher by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine: both countries are major wheat producers. Special Rep Perthes warned the country was heading towards economic and security collapse unless the civilian-led transition was restored. UN, AU and IGAD agreed to facilitate Sudanese-led political talks. US, UK and EU warned of immense economic pressures: restoration of a civilian-led transition would pave the way to restore assistance and international debt relief. This week al-Burhan dismissed senior members and boards of 30 universities…prompted professors to submit resignations, others launched open-ended strikes. This decision is a blatant infringement on the independence of universities. Al Jazeera

El Burhan dissolved board of trustees for public universities, dismissed 30 directors, and appointed his own choices in their stead. Dr Tawer, former member of Sovereignty Council, describes the decision: worthless, having no constitutional basis, issued by a coup without legitimacy…the purpose of these dismissals is to isolate professors who are able to unite forces of the revolution and reach an agreement with revolutionary actors. He called on professors to confront the coup by uniting efforts to prevent Burhan’s interference in their right to choose university boards. Professional Union of Univ Profs & Higher Institutes announced an open strike; 28 professors, Univ of Science & Technology, announced collective resignation in faculties, deanships and institutes. They rejected dismissal of directors and deputy directors, dissolution of trustees…described the dismissals as proof of blatant infringement on the independence of universities. Dabanga

15 years after ICC issued an arrest warrant against Kushayb he prepares to stand trial in The Hague. The trial will be the first case ICC judges handled on atrocities in Darfur and the first to come out of UN Sec Council referral. Kushayb is former commander of Janjaweed government-sponsored militias which carried out brutal attacks on civilians, charged with 31 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity. The trial is a major milestone: no other high-level perpetrator of crimes in Darfur has been prosecuted in Sudanese or international court. REDRESS A clash between the army and RSF is imminent, especially after Hemedti made moves to strengthen the militia and turn it into a separate state amid fears from army leaders. When Hemedti was waving goodbye from the plane taking him to Moscow, Al-Burhan was inspecting armored vehicles. Al Taghyeer
