Responses from 8/3 NY Times Ad

Posted on August 7, 2006
Share:

In the 24 hours after World Can’t Wait’s fullpage ad appeared in the New York Times on August 3, over 500 people signed the Call to Drive Out the Bush Regime.  Below is a sampling of some of the reasons why people signed the Call.

New York: furious
with the regime and its actions…also with congress and its passivity

MA, Someone determined
to make a difference: It’s time to make a stand. The world is ours to
shape. If we do nothing, we have only ourselves to blame!

Delray Beach: I have
been arguing for this kind of endeavor for SIX years!

High Point NC: We Want
Peace Now! We must regain respect for our nation once again! How better
to do so that oust this terrorist administration

Hopkinton MA: enough
is enough of the worst period in our history of a Democracy

Two Rivers WI, Retired:
We need to be seen and heard collectively.

Cheyenne WY, editor/writer: It’s too easy to feel
powerless in a country infected with fear. The sedentary are destroying our
graying culture and endangering our country.

Bloomington MN: because
the bush regime is a criminal organization that needs to be brought to justice

Columbia MO, Liberal College Student: I want to do
something more than vote for change because compromise wont always solve our
problems. The only way for the lawmakers to change the laws is to know the will
of the people.

Jersey Shore PA, I want this
moron out of office. He is an embarrassment to the human race.

Ann Arbor, MI, Writer: “I’ve been waiting for a movement such as
this. Thank you for organizing it!”

Metairie, LA, Social Worker: “sick and tired of seeing the world
being destroyed by the bush regime. Plus being a Katrina victim whose father
and surrogate mother died as a result of the storm.”

Gold Bar, WA, Citizen: “waiting for six years for this, for the
people to take action since our politicians won’t”

CA: “theocratic direction of
our country, violations of human rights of citizens of the world, murder of
over 130,000 innocents in Iraq and the degradation and destruction of the lives
of those not killed, the sanction of Israel’s murderous rampage against the
people of Lebanon, on-going ecomomic and military support for Israel’s
aggression against its Arab neighbors, economic policies rooted in social
injustice, I can continue but I start feeling like i want to cry because it is
all so sad”

Rhinebeck, NY: “To stand by and watch the unfolding horror is to
becme guilty by association. We all have a responsibility to expose and
confront injustice. Even if we are too busy and would prefer it to just go
away.”

White Plains, NY, Writer: “Because I cannot watch more children being
killed”

Harpers Ferry, WV, Retired Government Employee: “Protest war, repeated violations
of civil liberties, fraudulent elections and threat to the environment,
particularly with regard to global warming.”

New York, NY: “If we don’t do
something now, America
will become, if it is not already, another Nazi Germany. I’m terrified.”

Washington, DC, Self Employed: “to help in any way that I
can….plus I saw the ad in the New York Times with Eve Enslers name on it….I
love Eve and the work she does in the world!”

Stratford, CT, Theatre Producer: “because I agree that it’s up to
us”

Smithtown, NY, Retired journalist: “We must stop these criminals”

Greensboro, NC, Counseling: “I love my country and I loathe the
destructive regime and fear their plans to destroy our democratic voting
system. I am frustrated and want to make myself heard. I will be wherever you
say on Oct. 5. I have marked the day.”

Vergennes, VT, College
Professor: “I’m ashamed of what is being done in ‘my name’; I’m afraid for America and the
world. Bush&Co. must GO”

Englewood, NJ: “Horrified by the Bush Regime.”

Tallahassee, FL: “history will not be kind to us if we do not do
everything in our power to drive Bush out of office”

Minneapolis, MN, Researcher: “Why not? I am signing a petition that
says I am against torture; facism via corporatism/facism straight up; and that
I’d be willing to hit the streets 10/5/06 to show that I am NOT willing to have
my country be put to such evil and wasteful purposes as the current admin is
encouraging.”

Santa Cruz, CA, University: “Because
I want to contribute to stopping the insane and immoral actions of this
administration (Iraq, Guantanamo, outrageous tax cuts for the wealthy, slashing
of social programs, wholesale sell out of the broken health care system to the
drug companies, destruction of the traditions of freedom of this country, etc,
etc. etc.). God bless you for the work you’re doing!”

Overland Park, KS, Personal: “Because I agree with the bill of
particulars against the Bush administration you enumerated on your web site. I
consider the administration criminal in its acts of commission and omission.”

Portland OR, Member, First Unitarian Church of Portland: “The
advertisement that you posted in the NYTimes today was forthright and very
compelling.”

Kalispell, MT: “The damage is already irreparable.”

Mill Valley, CA: “I do not want a war criminal for my president.”

Carbondale, IL, SIU Emeritus: “Bush has been illegitimate from the
get-go!”

Langhorne, PA, Middle-aged Feminist: “Because our country should be
governed by the Constitution, not the Bible.”

Red Bank, Retiree: “Because I
agree with the statement as seen in the 8/03/06 NYT, and because I want to
participate in a day of Mass Resistance against the actions of my government.”

Bulls Gap, TN: “Because Bush,
Cheney, rove, rumsfeld and rice should be impeached and jailed and have to pay
back the money stolen from American people for illegal war, premeditated
911,etc.”

San Rafael, CA, Orthopaedic Surgeon (retired): “All the reasons
mentioned in the ad. To stop loosing my faith in democracy.”

Milwaukee, WI, Writer: “because I agree with the statements and
because I saw the name of Naomi Wallace and others I respect here”

Providence, RI, Playwright, Author, Professor: “We must speak out
against American Fascism”
