Censuring Bush for illegal warrantless spying by the NSA has been
deemed beyond the pale of official politics. When Russ Feingold
introduced a resolution to censure Bush for the spy program (which
after all was rather mild considering the crimes against humanity this
regime has committed), it was rabidly attacked by Republicans while
Democrats refused to support the resolution.
Bill Frist called the resolution “a political stunt that is
addressed at attacking the president of the United States of America
when we’re at war,” and now permissable “at the same
time we have terrorists right now intending to attack Western
civilization and the people of our homeland.”
In opposition to the resolution, Sen. Joe Lieberman said, “I’d prefer to see us solve the problem.”
When the official politics does not permit a censure on a President
who openly tortures, illegaly spies, and muders people in Iraq on the
basis of lies, we must act outside of these confines, repudiate this
regime for its crimes, and build a movement to drive it from power.
