After all the uproar, the Senate voted 95-4 to renew the
Patriot Act. A filibuster by Sen. Feingold was blocked 84-15. The law
makes only the slightest changes supposedly to protect civil liberties
(but more likely to make the Democrats look like they are mounting some
kind of opposition). The House is expected to pass the Patriot Act, and
President Bush of course never misses an opportunity to ram through
another police state measure.
The overwhelming support for the Patriot Act in Congress only
further shows that the Democrats share much of Bush’s program. The Bush
regime is setting the terms, while the Democrats are falling in line
and seeking to bring you along.
The World Can’t Wait! Drive Out the Bush Regime!
