Back in August of 2004, I became the
luckiest man on Earth when I married the girl of my dreams. Just four
short months later, I found myself in the middle of Iraq’s streets.
Facing my final breath of this lifetime, the person I was began to
quickly change. I saw death, hunger, homelessness, tears, need of every
simple thing in life, and everything in between. I knew things like
this existed in the world, of course, but never in my life had I ever
seen it so up close and personal. But, all of a sudden, I was in the
middle of it all.
As the months slowly snuck by, I was
constantly spending any free time I had researching about how horrible
all of those things I mentioned above were effecting the streets of the
United States, and just could not believe it. And that slowly led me on
the path of politics.
I chose reading about the corrupt rule of
the Bush administration over sleep, and backed up the hatered I felt
for Bush for sending me and my friends to fight HIS war. I might die,
or be forced to watch my fellow soldier die in a war he lied every inch
of the way into. I could not even begin to believe what I was reading
about the President of our “free” nation. A nation that I became to
realize was, and is, being destroyed by Bush and his administration.
During all of this, the woman who meant more
then everything to me, left. She said if I hadn’t had to leave home for
a year of my life, and was still home to be with her, then we’d still
be together. But, there wasn’t anything I could do. I was helpless. I
was stuck in a world my President so carelessly sent me too.
But, I didn’t let that keep my focus from
just getting home, and finally being able to give everything to my new
dedication in life.
And, I made it home. I began organizing a
local food drive, when my friend called to tell me that he would be
battling cancer for a second time. So, I got with another friend of
mine, and we started the process of starting our own non-profit charity
orgnaization, Music Makes Miracles, with our first show taking place at
the end of next month.
And, in the middle of getting all of that
going, I got word from two of my good friends about, World Can’t Wait,
and the rally and march two days before the event was too take place.
So, I jumped in my car, and took a 11 hour trip to take part in the
most amazing experience of my life. To be with thousands of others who
felt just as strong as I did about getting Bush and his crew out of the
White House, was such a thrill. And the march…wow. It was unreal. I
absolutely loved it, and would love to get a chapter started here in
Indiana.
Sorry this was so long…haha. Just wanted to explain to you how I found myself in Washington, DC.
Peace and Love.
Billy McKee.
