“Your government is moving to deny women here, and all over the world, the right to birth control and abortion.”
The Bush regime has dramatically cut funding for international
family planning organizations, leaving women around the world without
access to reproductive health. This latest outrage is coming from a
regime which enforces a “global gag rule” preventing organizations
receiving US funding from so much as mentioning abortion, and denies
condoms to Africa in the name of “abstinence only” while an AIDS
epidemic threatens the lives of millions.
Cutting funds for family planning will force unwanted pregnancies on
women in the poorest parts of the world, more unsafe abortions where
abortion is illegal, and less access to important sexual health
resources. This regime is imposing its fundamentalist morality on the
world and at the same time ruining the health and lives of women.
