STATE OF EMERGENCY is a 17-track compilation CD, and includes the
voices of Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Studs Terkel, Debra Sweet, and
Samantha Hamlin, along with performers who will appear March 5 at the
Elbo Room. This CD was created by WCW-Chicago organizers and
Proletariat Productions with recording engineer and producer Tristan
James. Radio Mango and Nadir’s Distorted Soul provided recordings from
other studios (details available on CD jacket). All tracks were donated
by the performers to help raise funds for WCW and to encourage dialogue
about the political condition of the United States.
The CD was officially released January 31 to coincide with protests of
President Bush’s State of the Union address. This included
demonstrations in 68 U.S. cities and towns, organized by WCW to ‘drown
out Bush’s lies.’ In Chicago, a rally in Daley Plaza opened with ‘¡Ya
Basta!’ played by Radio Mango flamenco guitarist and vocalist, Doug
Ringwald, and percussionist John Pollack. Ringwald said, ‘This song
title is Spanish for, ‘Enough!” The event MC was Mars, that
revolutionary sister, whose poem about the Bush administration’s
response to Hurricane Katrina, ‘Unspeakable,’ appears on STATE OF
EMERGENCY, as performed with Darius Savage on upright bass.
The World Can’t Wait: Drive Out the Bush Regime is a movement of
thousands of persons of various political, religious, and ethnic
backgrounds, sexual orientations who “seek to mobilize millions to
express outrage, to speak the truth, to act with urgency and to form
organized political resistance to create a political situation where
the Bush regime’s program is repudiated, where Bush himself is driven
from office, and where the whole direction he has been taking society
is reversed.” WCW organizers say, “We demand, Bush step down! And take
your program with you!” Purchase your CD today!
