Just an update on our action in Peoria.
We had a good, if small, protest on Tuesday night. About 20 of us gathered in Liberty Park on the Riverfront at 7:30 pm, and at 8pm, we were small but loud. The protest continued till about 8:45, when we called it a night. We enjoyed the expression, most definitely.
Two local news stations came and interviewed me and filmed us all. The local newspaper also showed up but didn’t talk to us. We got about a 25 second spot on the WHOI tv station (ABC affiliate). We were the second story, right after the main story about the State of the Union Address.
They could have edited my statement better, but I think the message got across. The next day at work, I got a bunch of requests to add people’s emails to my group list. Good stuff! We are small, and in a pretty quiet, non-activist, conservative town. SO to make the local news is a big deal for us. Even my very republican boss teased me about it, but he didn’t express disagreement! He actually seemed vaguely curious rather than disdainful.
We are growing and are anxious to hear about the next action. Thanks so much for all you do in the home office! We really appreciate your leadership!
