Last Tuesday at 9 p.m., a gang of us gathered outside the Kingston Freeman, to make noise while the president gave his State of the Union address.
With drums, harmonicas, kazoos, flutes, pots and pans, whistles, an antique car horn and an accordion, we serenaded the dark streets of Uptown Kingston. Wall Street echoed with our homemade, complex music and our chant: “Bush step down! Bush step down!”
My own sign read: “STAKES IS HIGH.” (It’s the title of an old De La Soul album.) My point is that the American republic is in danger. Citizens must use every weapon we have — the pen, the harp, the leotard, the human voice — to fight this pro-torture War Regime.
