Our history is full of examples when Americans clashed:
We clashed over whether or not lynching was
immoral. We clashed over whether or not ‘separate but equal’ was
constitutional. We clashed over when to end the Vietnam War.
Our history is full of examples when Americans disagreed:
We disagreed over whether women had control
over their bodies. We disagreed over whether or not Euro-American women
would have the right to vote. We disagreed over when to enter both
World Wars.
Our history even has examples of when
we waged war against one another. We fought and killed each other over
whether the institution of slavery would be dismantled.
All of these times were turbulent. They were
chaotic. Americans were afraid, and often did not know what would
happen next. Americans died. Americans killed each other. Through all
of these times, though, we knew certain things:
· We knew that justice would win.
·
We knew that our constitution supported the journey to “equality and
justice for all.”
· We knew that our country would continue to progress toward the end of oppression.
· We knew that our country would always stand for equality and freedom.
We knew, until now.
Today, with Bush and all he represents, we
face the greatest threat in the history of our country. Bush, with
those who keep him in power, is poised to dismantle the very fabric of
our constitution. Bush stands on the brink of instituting laws that
will take away our right to free speech, our right to free association,
our right to assemble, and our right to personal privacy.
We must stop the direction our country is
being taken. We must stop the undoing of our country. We must stop
this, and in so doing honor all of our ancestors who gave their lives
in battles against oppression and for equality and justice. Help to
stop this direction by demonstrating that you are a member of the
Alliance of Resisters. Demonstrate that you belong to the majority of
people who are ethical, moral, American, and against what Bush stands for.

the Constitution, and freedom of speech, must put aside our divisions
and our egos. We must work together to stop the undoing of our country.
