Plans and overview for volunteers coming to D.C to take part in
mobilizing for the historic protests the night of the State of the
Union Address and the following National Mobilization in D.C demanding BUSH STEP DOWN and take your program with you.
Stay tuned for more news and also plans for volunteers coming to NYC.
For the College students who have been actively organizing
on their Campus or are outraged by the Bush Regime’s relentless drive to
transform society in a fascist way- come to Washington
D.C. during your Winter Break. Student Volunteers will be pouring into D.C
during their Winter Break determined to mobilize tens of thousands of people to
strip this regime of it’s legitimacy and demand Bush Step Down and take your
whole program with you. Be part of leading the movement to force
out what one Nobel Laureate Playwright has referred to as ‘the most dangerous
force in history’.
What will it take Drive Out the Bush Regime? YOU!
Join us Because:
First, volunteers will be building for and organizing the
outpourings both in DC on the night of Bush’s State of the Union Address, and
the massive demonstration the following Saturday. As part of that, students and youth will be
playing a crucial role in events surrounding the 34th anniversary of the Roe
vs. Wade decision that legalized abortion, and confirmation hearings on the
openly theocratic Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito, who vows to overturn that
decision.
Second, the volunteers will be playing a crucial role in
building up a permanent, visible presence of this movement, which will
last long after the volunteers go back home, right in the capital, where the
Bush regime is based. Both of these elements are critical to whether or not
this regime is driven out.
The capital city and a lot of the surrounding area need to
bristle with activity and discussion both about the actions the volunteers will
be planning, and about the very right of the Bush regime to continue to rule.
Activities Planned:
-Change the look of D.C.
Stores, Churches, businesses and homes visibly declaring support for
this movement and the State of the Union Protests by displaying lawn signs,
posters in their windows and carrying stacks of flyers for people to take. Stickers, Bush Step Down Posters and
Newsletters need to be plastered at key spots all though the city.
-Concert Tabling and distributing stacks of Student and Youth
Newsletters at events leading up to the State of the Union.
-Door-to door campaigns; fundraising, building support and
organizing on-the-spot house meetings .
-Organizing culture events, discussions with featured
guest-speakers and fundraising parties.
-Mobilizing Churches and cultural centers to take up and
contribute to our bold plans and including them in sermons and or programs they
put on.
-Speaking in High School Classrooms and mobilizing College Campuses
like Howard University.
-Major Fundraising campaigns weaving through all of our
activities and tabling with materials and flyers at busy intersections downtown.
-Contacting newspapers and media outlets all around D.C to
regularly cover what volunteers are doing and why they’re doing it.
Students from around the country are needed to
devote their winter break to coming to D.C and making these plans a
reality. In addition this effort will require volunteers with
skills in the following:
We Need:
-Writers and photographers to update a blog centered on the
Student and Youth organizing campaign in D.C.
Everyday the blog will be updated with news and announcements from our
volunteers.
-Graphic Designers for the web and posters/flyers.
-Press Work. Volunteers who can write
press releases, contact the media and place ads in publications and online.
-Volunteers in the D.C office phone banking and emailing
people we meet ecstatic about hearing this movement exists and volunteering to
be part of changing the course of history.
-Filmmakers and video artists covering volunteers building
for these historic protests.
