Paul Mirecki a religious studies professor at the University of
Kansas, was pressured to cancel his course ”Special Topics in
Religion: Intelligent Design, Creationism and other Religious
Mythologies” last week after he sent out an email to a student
organization mocking the lunacy of Christian fundamentalism.
Then yesterday (12/5), Prof. Mirecki was attacked and beaten by two
men on a rural road. The tailgating Mirecki’s car, the attackers beat
Mirecki while making comments about the course he was going to offer.
What does this tell us about the direction of society when lynch-mob
type actions are whipped up against a professor for daring to expose
the Christian fundamentalist ideology that is increasingly being rammed
onto the rest of society, including by the President?
