“Your government is moving each day closer to a theocracy, where a narrow and hateful brand of Christian fundamentalism will rule.”
American Museum of Natural History in New York opened an exhibit
called “Darwin” in November, celebrating the life of Charles Darwin and
his discovery of evolution. What’s unusual about this exhibition is
that the was no corporate sponsor – instead, the $3 million cost was
payed by wealthy individuals and private donations, because no
companies were willing to sponsor an exhibit on evolution.
In contrast to the difficulties of an exhibit educating the public in the scientific fact of
evolution, a creationist museum near Cincinnati which presents a
literal biblical version of creation as fact recently raised $7 million
in donations.
What does it say about the direction of society when numerous
companies who usually sponsor museum exhibitions refuse to sponsor one
upholding evolution because it would upset the Christian fundamentalist
ideology and program of George Bush and many of his supporters? Anyone
who thinks “theocracy can never happen here” because of America’s
modern economy that relies on science and advanced technology should
think soberly about the implications here.
The World Can’t Wait! Drive Out the Bush Regime!
