students at Guilford College
held a rally against the Bush Regime.
The students grouped up at
and listened to several faculty members, students, community organizers and a
Revolutionary Communist Party supporter talk about driving out Bush. The rally was followed by a spirited march to
a busy intersection. Marchers carried a large banner saying “The World
Can’t Wait – Drive Out The Bush Regime”.
A large coffin with “New Orleans”
painted on the sides and “Wanted for Mass Murder” placards condemned
Bush & Co. for the Katrina tragedy.
Signs against the war and torture, defending science and abortion
rights, calling for peace and more were carried to the beat of lively drumming.
At the intersection, some students went into the street to block
traffic but were hustled off by waiting police.
Honks and fists of solidarity from passing cars were virtually non stop
for two and a half hours.
A UNCG student WCW organizer told of plans for another demonstration
at UNCG next week to demand that the entire campus be declared a “Free
Speech Area” and not the tiny area alotted by the administration. WCW organizers had ignored the restricitons
during the weeks leading up to November 2nd and on that day marched right
through a class room building with a dozen drums beating loudly on their way to
downtown Greensboro. Guilford
students are planning to support next week’s actions. At the end of the day,
plans for actions around Bush’s State of the Union address were being discussed
by students.
