San Francisco Fleet Week — Whose Idea Was This, Anyway?

galleryclassicsdfplane PhotoGallery-thumb-300x341-2731Once again, Bay Area residents and visitors suffer the noise and vibration, pollution, and fear of a mid-air crash as fighter jets terrorize small children, seniors, pets, and local wildlife. The U.S. Military establishment is in town to recruit kids to sign up to go kill for Empire.

Consistently attracting millions of visitors, creating important and lasting relationships for its partners, and generating over 10M in annual revenue for the city, San Francisco Fleet Week (SFFW) is now recognized by the United States Department of Defense as the model for fleet weeks across the country says the Rogers Family Company. SFFW began in 1981 when then Mayor Diane Feinstein led the nation in celebrating America’s sea services.

Boeing F/A-18 Hornet an emblem of war and violence

“Who in the crowds this weekend will wonder about this fact? Are we so distant from the wars waged that we can just sit back and enjoy the beauty of the Angels’ acrobatics without pondering the symbolism behind the show?” asks Rich Hill, writer and teacher living in San Francisco.

Let us imagine what it must feel like, to see those planes roar overhead, with an entirely different mission.

“Of course everyone knows these planes are weapons of war, but few of us perhaps truly imagine the powerlessness of those under attack, imagine the victims of these huge and glistening and sun-kissed and biggerfasterdeadlierthanyours fighters, these insanely destructive jets, the sheer unbridled terror, what is must be like for the people, the civilians, the families and neighborhoods and babies in strollers, every day, for months on end.” — Mark Morford, SF Gate Columnist

Friday marks the 15th anniversary of the U.S. and British invasion of Afghanistan

Combat officially ended in 2014, but fighting still rages. ‘The right battlefield’ for America proved to be a killing ground for the Afghan people. Our government must be held to account.

American troops have been in Afghanistan twice as long as the second world war. With no end in sight. It is no “accident” that our government elects collective punishment to hold entire populations hostage to U.S. interests. Drone strikes on civilians and hospitals are not isolated incidents, but deliberate military policy to terrorize states that challenge U.S. hegemony.

No One “Deserves” to Suffer the Crimes of American Imperialism. U.S. Out of Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Pakistan, Yemen, Libya and Somalia
