Go To War?
By Miguel Gabriel Vazquez
We came home but a part of us will always be there.
The Powers That Be were present but they, definitely, were not there.
While we were dying, crying and wondering why,
they and their children were home, dining and whining.
Freedom, democracy they said…
God and country they said…
Ticker tape parades and warm hugs…
They said…
Where?… we said.
Most of us came home…
But not all of us are present…
And being present does not make us emotionally available.
They taught us how to go to war, but not how to come home.
