4:00-5:00 Urgent global protest to close Guantanamo — NYC Action on the steps of the NY Public Library, 41st Street & 5th Avenue
Describing more than 150 migrant men as “the worst of the worst,” the Trump regime flew them to Guantanamo, placing most of them in the section of the prison built for “war on terror” prisoners. It was quickly verified by relatives and law enforcement that most of the men did not have criminal records, and court proceedings forced their removal from the torture prison. Abruptly, after two weeks, most have been sent on deportation flights to Honduras. Meanwhile, 15 men, three of whom have been cleared for release, still remain incarcerated after being interrogated and tortured in the aftermath of the “war on terror.”
Initiated by World Can’t Wait and cosponsored by Brooklyn for Peace, Center for Constitutional Rights, NYC War Resistors League, Amnesty International, Veterans For Peace Chapter 34, NYC Metro Raging Grannies, Peace Action New York State, Pax Christi NYS and others.
