For people who care about humanity, #GivingTuesday has become a day to focus on making others’ lives better.
In particular, on this global day of giving, we’ve also got to reckon with what the U.S. government is giving: almost unlimited 5000# bombs, long- and medium-range missiles, anti-personnel mines, drones and technology to a government bent on ethnic cleansing a whole people in Palestine and to its proxy in a war with Russia.
The most powerful resource to combat this systematic war on the world, is the resistance of people who act to stop them.
Today we highlight two extraordinary things that World Can’t Wait does:
- Along with a few other organizations, we organize regular protests to demand: Close the U.S. Torture Camp at Guantanamo Now! As long as it’s open, offshore, insulated from international law, it is who “we” are, threatening humanity everywhere.
- Since 2008, We Are Not Your Soldiers has visited hundreds of classrooms, bringing anti-war veterans to speak with students about what really happens when you sign up. Just this calendar year of 2024, we’ve had more invitations than ever, in person and virtually, presenting to and engaging in discussions with students in 52 classes and three student activist meetings.
