The presidential candidates distinguish their respective plans to maintain U.S. military dominance over the globe with different language. The Harris program is to “ensure America always has the strongest, most lethal fighting force in the world” and to tell prospective immigrants from Central America “don’t come.” The MAGA program is less coherent but no less dangerous: threaten NATO countries to remove U.S. protection unless they “pay,” “fill up” Guantanamo, fawn over fascist politicians, make China “pay” with higher tariffs.
Whoever ends up with power will control the 800+ bases globally and, of course, the largest nuclear arsenal, modernized thanks to Obama and Biden.
But what about the military itself which is having strategic and personnel problems? A superpower can occupy and subdue a country, but not necessarily come out victorious, as in Afghanistan and Vietnam. And such occupation will involve war crimes.
In the Dark: The War Crimes That the Military Buried
Please take the time to read and/or listen to this years-long investigation.
Important to know: U.S. military recruitment to meet readiness goals is not going so well, reports Vox:
America isn’t ready for another war — because it doesn’t have the troops
Three of America’s four major military services failed to recruit enough service members in 2023. The Army has failed to meet its manpower goals for the last two years and missed its 2023 target by 10,000 soldiers, a 20 percent shortfall. Today, the active-duty Army stands at 445,000 soldiers, 41,000 fewer than in 2021 and the smallest it has been since 1940.
The work We Are Not Your Soldiers is doing is important in this regard. Please support the project, as the need for speakers in classrooms is even more necessary.
