We are in the midst of scheduling visits for this fall semester in schools around the country. Watch one of our presenters Rosa del Duca speak, this past April, via Zoom with college students in NYC explaining how she joined the National Guard in Montana in order to to pay for college. She was under the impression that the Guard would be used for forest fighting and other actions helping people in her area. Right after 9/11, she thought the NY Guard would be working on clean-up in NYC. But as the “war on terror” developed, Rosa realized that she could be sent to fight a war she felt was immoral and so applied to be a conscientious objector. One of the legal points used by her attorney was habeas corpus, a major issue, of course, in Guantanamo.
