Julian Assange is out of prison, due to mass international opposition to the charges the U.S. brought against him under Obama, Trump and Biden, and the recognition that Wikileaks provided information on U.S. wars on Iraq, Afghanistan; Guantanamo’s injustices; and the U.S. government’s domination of other nations. Let’s celebrate this!
We are grateful for the use of “Collateral Murder” which We Are Not Your Soldiers has shown to many high school and college students. Here are a couple of the comments we’ve received over the years.
“[The video] made my stomach turn and I became emotional knowing what people in the Middle East go through at the hands of the military… The sad fact is that this is the reality for the people living in the Middle East,or any area the American military occupies….”
“The video that we watched was leaked, and that is how we got to know about the atrocities and the war crimes committed by the U.S. military. Had it not been for the leak, we would have never known… Even after the leak went public, nothing was done to reprimand the war crimes committed by the U.S. military….”
It is alarming, however, that Assange was forced to plead guilty to a felony of “conspiring unlawfully to obtain and disseminate classified information,” in this case, as a dangerous precedent could be set allowing the U.S. to further suppress journalists.
