As world crises and U.S. wars not only continue but are increasing by the day, students have many serious concerns.
Our accomplished presenters describe the effects of war on people in the countries under attack as well as share their own experiences and how they were affected by their time in the U.S. military. We provide a perspective that is not often available to students who are encouraged to ask questions, engage in critical thinking and do their own research. Discussion on crucial issues is necessary in order to reach informed opinion.
Spring 2024 Speakers: Dean Feinman, John Burns, Joy Damiani, Rosa del Duca, Miles Megaciph, Lyle Rubin, Joe Urgo and Miguel Gabriel Vazquez
Stationed in the military in locations ranging from Vietnam to Iraq, Afghanistan and other sites of the “War on Terror,” with membership in the U.S. Army, Marines, Air Force and National Guard, the presenters have many experiences and perspectives to share. Among this diverse group are a bilingual Spanish-English speaker and two women. A frequent student response after a visit, as indicated on our evaluation forms or in notes or essays is how honest the veterans were in speaking about what they had gone through and how willing to be open about their vulnerabilities.
We work with the middle/high school teacher or college professor to plan the presentation to align with curricular needs and provide resources as needed. Each speaker has their own unique story and style of presentation. We also do presentations to student organizations on campus.
Your donations keep We Are Not Your Soldiers going. Each time a veteran speaks to a class, they receive a stipend to help cover childcare and/or time off work or school. We also cover travel expenses when needed, internet presence, communication tools, materials and some advertising.
