Last week and today, the US (and the UK and a few other countries reminiscent of Bush’s “coalition” attack on Iraq) sent missiles into more than 60 targets in Yemen – one of the world poorest countries. The justification they give is to stop Houthi rebels from firing missiles and drones at commercial ships in the Red Sea until Israel stops the war on Gaza.
Yemen has its own history with the U.S., which backs Saudi Arabia’s war on the Houthis, blockading its seaport, causing famine there, and leading to the death of an estimated 377,000 Yemenis. (United Nations).
The ominous U.S. choice to attack Yemen is profoundly dangerous, increasingly the possibility that Iran, Russia, or China could enter into the conflict, while the U.S. backs whatever Israel does.
Is any of this in the interests of humanity? No.
