I expect everyone reading this cherishes being together with loved ones, friends and communities while also feeling the deep contrast with how much of humanity is struggling to survive — or not surviving — as we celebrate the holidays. Peoples’ genuine wishes for peace and justice are real. But the belligerent governments on all sides of the major global conflicts are criminally full of lies and war crimes.
My point is not that we shouldn’t celebrate, but that we should confront this contradiction directly and do all we can to stop the crimes and support humanity. The world doesn’t have to be this way — but it does take us to act in all the ways open to us. Humanity and the planet come first!
