This is a message from The International Emergency Campaign to Free Iran’s Political Prisoners Now! (IEC) regarding Iranian political prisoner rapper Toomaj Salehi, calling for a flowering of cultural events that celebrate Toomaj’s inspiring music and example.
Toomaj took part in protests last year upholding the Women Life Freedom movement after the killing of Mahsa Amini by the “morality police” for allegedly not wearing her hijab properly, and videos of his powerful, defiant songs and raps are extolled in Iran and internationally.
We call on all touched by learning of his stand and music to FIND WAYS to express your rage against the ruthless persecution of this true people’s artist and activist who hasn’t sold out despite all he has been through. In the spirit of solidarity and support, we need your active participation TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE, in preventing his voice from being silenced by Iran’s theocratic mullahs.
We are seeking your input, what ideas and suggestions you have, what ways you could contribute, including planning or being a part of an event where we could show Toomaj’s videos, plus other song/rap videos from Iran—as well as invite the participation of poets, rappers, musicians who would like to be involved in this project.
Check out Toomaj, renowned outspoken political dissident rap artist and his powerful music on the IEC website, and on Instagram. He has recently been re-arrested for “disturbing public opinion” and his life is in extreme danger.
