World Can’t Wait participated in the planning meetings for
the Anti-Militarism Hub for the massive End Fossil Fuels March. Debra Sweet noted, “With a military that burns more fossil fuel than any other institution and a global empire that produces more petroleum than any other country, the U.S. is a danger to the planet. In the interests of humanity, we must take action to stop the crimes of our government.” On Sunday September 17, our World Can’t Wait contingent marched in the midst of that hub as we proceeded through Manhattan along with 75,000 other people. It was quite a day!
The days before and after the march have been filled with pro-planet events as well. I took part in the non-violent direct action at the Museum of Modern Art calling on MoMA to drop the board chair whose billions come from the fossil fuel industry, including current projects on Native American land. (See me above the “s”).
On Monday, 149 of us were arrested as we non-violently protested at the headquarters of the Federal Reserve in the Wall Street area of
Manhattan demanding an end to fossil fuel funding.
