“Hoodies Up! Targets Held! We’re Standing Up! No More Murder of Black Youth!”

Nationwide Protests to Mark Two Years Since Unjust Killing of Trayvon Martin Wednesday February 26

What: Protest & Photo Op
When: Wednesday February 26
Where: NYC, LA, Chicago, Jacksonville, Oakland & more

List of protests

Two years after Trayvon Martin was killed by George Zimmerman, and eleven days after a mistrial for Michael Dunn, the killer of Jordan Davis, The Stop Mass Incarceration Network called for political protest on Wednesday, February 26. In 18 locations, people will gather wearing hoodies for A Day of Outrage and Remembrance for Trayvon Martin and Jordan Davis.

The Network said “On Wednesday, February 26, join with people in your city or town. Put on a Hoodie for Trayvon, hold a target with the message of “No More” for Jordan and all the Black and Latino youth who this system views as suspects. Defiantly represent that we refuse to accept a target being put on the back of every Black youth in this country; we refuse to accept the declaration that Black people have no rights that white people are bound to respect.”

Dr. Cornel West, co-founder of the Network with Carl Dix, said this week “We Black folk come from a history of being terrorized, traumatized, stigmatized and murdered for 400 years. We have to straighten our backs up. We have to take a stand. We have to come together February 26 and that is just a starting point. We will not allow this system to treat our precious young people in such a horrible fashion.”

Carl Dix said, “Gathering at the seats of power and influence in cities across the country, rocking our hoodies, holding targets and raising our fists in silent determination, we are declaring that we will not accept our youth being targeted in this way. We are saying NO MORE to Black and Latino youth being treated like criminals, guilty until proven innocent, if they can survive to prove their innocence. This is unacceptable. It is illegitimate. It must be stopped, and we are acting to stop it!”

Interviews with leaders of the movement available.
