Defend Women’s Reproductive Rights in Charlotte and Albuquerque

YOU are needed! This summer (starting this weekend) Operation Save America led by the notorious Flip Benham will be swarming Charlotte, NC.

 
Benham has pledged to shut down Family Reproductive Health, a long time provider of women’s health care, including abortion services.

Starting Saturday July 17, Operation Save America (creators of the "INTOLERANT" t-shirt) a rabidly fundamentalist sect of anti-abortion fanatics, is calling on anti-abortion forces to "storm the gates of hell" in Charlotte, NC. Operation Save America has a long and vicious history of opposing women’s right to choose, fighting against gay rights, and spreading vicious anti-Muslim hatred. They must be opposed.

 
World Can’t Wait is calling for people to converge on Charlotte to defend women’s reproductive rights, and oppose Operation Save America. No to fundamentalist fascists who want to impose their Dark Ages morality, their anti-gay hatred and religious bigotry on society! No to false and anti-scientific claims that abortion harms women! No to threats and violence intimidating those who heroically provide women with the right to control their bodies and their own lives. We seek to unite with a broad array of pro-women’s rights and human rights forces and individuals; that’s where we need to be seeking "common ground" and common cause-not with people who want to control women and promote violence against their healthcare providers!

Family Reproductive Health is located at 700 E. Hebron Street in Charlotte, with easy access from I-77, in south Charlotte.

Saturday the 24th (local organizers anticipate this may be the main day you are needed – check in as this may change)

If you are coming please contact us ahead of time as plans may change. OSA has announced their "kickoff" event for Saturday evening. This same week, Charlotte will be hosting Black Gay Pride as well – and we expect Benham and Co. to target both the gay community this week as well as local mosques (they are equal-opportunity haters).

Operation Rescue in Albuquerque!

Operation Rescue (the Wichita-based group which violently harassed Dr. Tiller before he was murdered by one of their associates, not to be confused with the violently anti-abortion Charlotte-based group Operation Save America) has announced their plans to move their "mission" to Albuquerque, NM. After Dr. Tiller was murdered more than a year ago, Operation Rescue has sought a new target #1. Last August they attempted to mobilize against Dr. Leroy Carhart in Omaha, NE, but were met by hundreds of abortion rights supporters who seized the political initiative and successfully denied them the spotlight. Now, Operation Rescue has decided that the "abortion capitol" is actually Albuquerque, NM, and are focusing on Dr. Curtis Boyd. Do they hope that the anti-immigrant histeria in neighboring Arizona provides a positive fascist base of support for their plans?

The good news is that local Albuquerque residents are already planning to mobilize against Operation Rescue! Before they really have a chance to get started with their campaign of misogyny and intimidation, a rally has been called for July 30. Spread the word! Invite any friends in New Mexico via the Facebook event.

Contrast Heather Ault’s art project 4000 Years for Choice with its positive messages like "respect," or "empower" and facts about the human practice of birth control and abortion with the hate-filled threats and medieval morality of groups like Operation Save America and Operation Rescue.
