Obama Asks for Billions More in War Funds

By Kenneth J. Theisen

On April 9th, President Barack Obama requested another $83.4 billion in supplemental funds to pay for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Obama also requested $400 million in counterinsurgency aid to  Pakistan. This supplemental request will pay for the thousands of more troops that he intends to send to escalate the war in Afghanistan. This latest request will push the total outlay for those two wars to nearly a trillion dollars and will only cover military costs into the fall of 2009. This money is addition to the hundreds of billions spent on the military each year for its normal costs of keeping imperialism safe. Obama’s latest request will further provide $2.2 billion to speed the overall increase in the size of the U.S. war machine. Obama wants to increase the military by nearly 100,000 additional troops.

In Obama’s written request to the House of Representatives he stated, "Nearly 95 percent of these funds will be used to support our men and women in uniform as they help the people of Iraq to take responsibility for their own future (Italics added) — and work to disrupt, dismantle and defeat al-Qaida in Pakistan and Afghanistan…I also urge the

Congress to focus on the needs of our troops and our national security, and not to use the supplemental to pursue unnecessary spending. I want the Congress to send me a focused bill and to do so quickly."

I am so happy Obama wants to “help the people of Iraq.”  I was afraid this money would be used to bring more death to that country. U.S. “help” has already resulted in a million Iraqi deaths since the 2003 U.S. invasion. But as we all know that war was conducted by Bush. But now we have Obama conducting the war, so everything is fine.  Death under Obama is so much nicer than death under Bush. I am sure the average Iraqi or Afghan would agree.

Help, I can’t tell the difference between Bush and Obama and their regimes!
Trillions going to Wallstreet, corrupt banks with fucking criminal CEOs and managers, etc. Nothing going to the people except a fucking loan known as “Work credit” which needs to be paid back by April 2010 and now billions more for more wars?!!!!!!!

    Fuck you Obama/Bush!!!!!!!!

I am ot totally anomus and estatic about the state of our world, USA I I would simply like to her more solutions to problems than retoric and complaint, This is the same scenerio, and tactics use to complain about everything, yes it is good dam good to have freedom of speech and discuss our own problems as well as internaltionally, I have not been sold of politics ever, not being a gambler but other do, not a drinker other do, My community has been raped we have complained protested, we suffer for deaths daily on our streets, homelessness, people being evicted from their homes. and drugs legal and illegal has invaded out families communities and country, a group of you magnatude could do well to help work to correct some of these ills. so why just complain, get attention yes, educate yes, change is being able to stand in the gap with actual working the walk. not working the talk.

The Obama regime has become quite Stalinistic in it’s rhetoric.

We “help” the Iraqi people with our armies. What’s next, will the American people be “enriched” by more tax “opportunities” to fund the “war machine”. Oops! Not “War Machine” – “overseas contingency operations”.

Do they think we are children that we can be so easily baffled and confused?!
