World Can’t Wait calls on everyone to get into the streets and PROTEST, demanding an immediate end to the occupation of Iraq.

Five years ago George W. Bush and Dick Cheney promised a “war that will not end in our lifetimes”. Five years ago “Shock and Awe” pulverized Baghdad and other Iraqi cities in one of the most murderous and criminal acts of war in history. Five years – and over a million people killed, millions more displaced, countless children orphaned in cities reduced to rubble. Five years of dungeons packed with people subjected to the cruelest torture imaginable, five years of armies of occupation that terrorize an entire population.

Will this criminal war and criminal occupation – a war based on lies and an occupation directed at an entire people and country – “end in our lifetimes”? If the last five years have proven anything, it is that there is no savior out there, no elected official (or anyone running for office) who can or will end this.

The facts are clear. This war was initiated on a lie. This war has been continued on the basis of more lies. This war and this occupation are unjust.  This war will not be stopped on the initiative of any politician. The dead bodies continue to pile higher while politics as usual continues.

Politics as usual will not be overcome with protest as usual. The
radical nature of the times we live in: times when genocide masquerades
as “peacekeeping”, when torture has become routine and legalized and is
called “enhanced interrogation techniques”, when government spying into
all our communications has become normal, when everybody knows that
every word out of the President’s mouth is a lie – times like these
demand a break with the usual.

Millions of people in this country want an end to Bush and Cheney’s
endless wars. Billions of people across this planet would take heart
and be encouraged by the emergence of a massive movement of political
resistance in this country, a movement demanding an end to these
monstrous wars; a movement focused on the need to Drive Out the Bush
Regime.

March 19th will mark five years of illegitimate war. It must be
ended. The war criminals must be driven from office. Be part of making
a different history than the endless unjust wars Bush and Cheney have
initiated, and which will continue in one form or another under any
future presidency. World Can’t Wait calls on everyone to get in the
streets and PROTEST, demanding an immediate end to the occupation of
Iraq.

Washington DC Wednesday March 19 1pm Lafayette Park across from the White House.

Join in acts of creative non-violent civil resistance!

1:30 p.m. in Lafayette Square Park join World Can’t Wait and a sea
of orange jumpsuits in solidarity with and representing those being
tortured in Guantanamo Bay Prison, Abu Ghraib, Bagram in Afghanistan,
and CIA “black sites” around the globe. A demonstration showing that
waterboarding IS TORTURE, is planned directly in front of the residence
of our biggest war criminal other than Dick Cheney.

The Park will become a rallying center for all those who are
determined to put an end to this illegitimate and immoral occupation
and demand justice by driving the war criminals from office now, not
waiting for 2009! We are done with secret renditions, warrantless
spying, lying to the public, using signing statements to disobey laws,
rounding up immigrants and detaining them.

Our Spring Break Washington DC March 7-24th

This March, join a mass of students and youth for spring break in Washington, D.C. to end the war in Iraq.

We”ll have sit-ins, demonstrations, marches, rallies, protests”
We”ll sing and dance” We”ll do Nonviolent Civil Resistance, we”ll do
banner drops, we”ll do creative nonviolent direct action, and we”ll do
everything in our power to bring an end to the war in Iraq, telling
Congress, “Our spring break will break your war!”

STOP LOSS CONGRESS ACTION: MARCH 10 to 12, 2008 (Monday to Wednesday) in Washington,D.C:

This
March, while tens of thousands of Americans in Washington, D.C., and
all over the United States participate in acts of nonviolent civil
disobedience to protest the ongoing occupations of Iraq and
Afghanistan, and when soldiers and innocent civilian victims begin
another year of occupation, torture, and murder, Congressmembers will be on vacation
(from the 15th to 30th, technically a “district work period”), ignoring
the killing and suffering they have enabled, supported, and financed.

To intensify the irony, Congress has condoned a widespread stop-loss policy in the military which requires soldiers to involuntarily extend their tours and prolong the killing. It is time to Stop-Loss Congress!

On Monday March 10, and Tuesday March 11, we will deliver “official” stop-loss notices to all members of Congress in their Capitol Hill offices. These will notify them that all of their LEAVES, VACATIONS, PASSES and HOME VISITS HAVE BEEN CANCELLED
until further notice. Just as active-duty personnel endure involuntary
extensions of their tours of duty, we are notifying Congress that they,
too, will have their “tours of duty” INVOLUNTARILY EXTENDED until every
soldier and mercenary out of Iraq and home. When all the troops and contractors get home, then Congress can go home, and no sooner.

To sign the Stop Loss Order click here

On Wednesday March 12, we will take nonviolent action on Capitol Hill,
to ensure that, while thousands of Iraqis, Afghanis, and foreign
invaders die and are injured for life, the members of Congress and
their staffs will not go home but remain to DO THEIR DUTY, and immediately end the funding of the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan. No member of Congress goes home until THE TROOPS COME HOME.
