The Bush regime’s so-called ‘War on Terror’ has actually increased the amount of terrorist attacks in Iraq and has negatively affected people’s views of America as a whole worldwide. According to Noam Chomsky’s Failed States, the Bush administration was well aware that invading Iraq would likely increase terror and WMD proliferation, due to reports from the Central Intelligence Agency, the National Intelligence Council, and many more credible institutions. From 1980-2003, there were 315 suicide attacks globally, but since the US invasion, suicide bombing in Iraq are estimated at 400, where these kind of attacks were virtually unknown before.
The illegal invasion of Iraq serves as a manifestation of bin Laden’s view of the US to the rest of the Muslim world. According to terrorism specialist Peter Bergen, President Bush ‘is right that Iraq is a main front on the war on terrorism, but this is a front we created.’
According to Michael Scheuer, senior CIA analyst responsible for tracking Osama bin Laden from 1996, ‘bin Laden has been precise in telling America the reasons he is waging war on us. None of the reasons have anything to do with our freedom, liberty, and democracy, but have everything to do with US policies and actions in the Muslim world.’ The Bush regime reacted to the 9/11 attacks with indiscriminate violence, accomplishing exactly what bin Laden wanted to do himself: create a greater amount of terrorists that bin Laden could’ve ever created on his own.
