The Senate confirmed General Hayden as the new head of the CIA in a
78-15 vote. This is nothing less than a rubber stamp of the
illegal warrantless wiretapping that Hayden presided over and lied
about as head of the NSA from 1999-2005. Furthermore,the
unprecedented move of appointing a military general head of the CIA
marks a further encroachment of the military onto all spheres of
government. While Bush offered praise for the confirmation, the
Senate offered no opposition, despite the fact that Hayden was in
charge of implementing blatantly legal and fascistic measures which
shred basic legal precepts.
