Your government enforces a culture of greed, bigotry,
intolerance and ignorance.
Thursday, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved a
constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. While Republicans are intent on pushing
anti-gay legislation through before November, Howard Dean and the Democratic
Party leadership have been pandering to the theocrats driving this hateful
agenda.
Dean went on Pat Robertson’s The 700 Club, a show whose
agenda is promoting a narrow and hateful brand of Christian fundamentalism to
millions of viewers and advocating this as government policy. The fact that Dean went on this show as a friendly
guest already says much about the Democrats’ strategy of finding common ground
with religious fanatics. But his words
on the show were even worse. Just read a
couple quotes:
The
Democratic Party platform from 2004 says that marriage is between a man and a
woman. That’s what it says.
I think
what we have in common with the evangelical community is that we ought to have
a lot fewer abortions than we do. The abortions have actually gone up in the
last few years. We should have far fewer abortions …
While gay marriage and other basic rights for LGBT people
are being taken away, abortion is on the way to being banned, and the Bush
regime moves to institute a theocracy in all realms of life (with people like
Pat Robertson having quite an influence on government policy), the Democrats
are busy promising they won’t oppose any of this to this in the name of ‘not
alienating the swing voters’. The
hateful fundamentalism that is increasingly becoming the law of the land must
be unequivocally repudiated and stopped.
And that’s going to be up to us.
The World Can’t Wait! Drive Out the Bush Regime!
