Reality vs. Bush’s lies on the NSA’s database of tens of
millions of Americans’ phone records:
Bush lie: ‘After September 11, I vowed to the American
people that our government would do everything within the law to protect them
against another terrorist attack.’
Reality: This ‘war on terrorism’ is not about protecting the
American people, but is an unending war for imperial domination around the
world. As was shown in New
Orleans, the Bush regime does not care about the safety of the American
people, and its torture, bombs, chemical weapons, and massacres of civilians
have only fueled anger against the US around the world. The Bush regime has routinely broken the law
in its ‘war on terrorism’, from torture, pre-emptive war, to police state
measures like the NSA spying.
Bush lie: ‘our intelligence activities strictly target al
Qaeda and their known affiliates.’
Reality: The NSA has been keeping a database of phone
records of tens of millions of Americans, and the FBI and Defense Department
have been conducting surveillance on anti-war and other protesters.
Bush lie: ‘the government does not listen to domestic phone
calls without court approval.’
Reality: The Bush administration admitted that the NSA in
fact spied on some calls that were within US borders.
Bush lie: ‘the intelligence activities I authorized are
lawful and have been briefed to appropriate members of Congress’.
Reality: The NSA has to obtain warrants from the FISA court to
spy on Americans, and Congress has been largely left in the dark about the NSA
spy program (whether they would do anything about it if they knew is another
question).
Do you trust a government that rounded up or forced to
undergo ‘special registration’ tens of thousands of Arab, Muslim, and South
Asian immigrants, lied to start an unjust war, openly tortures people, and more
with your phone records?
The World Can’t Wait! Drive Out the Bush Regime!
(All Bush quotes come from CNN’s transcript of his comments
made 5/11/06 after USA Today broke the news about the NSA’s massive database of
billions of phone calls.)
Today’s reason to drive out the Bush regime, 5/11:
For anyone who thought the NSA’s warrantless wiretaps were
only directed at a small portion of the population, think again. USA Today just revealed that the NSA has
built up a database with the phone records of tens of millions of Americans
without any warrants.
Verizon, BellSouth and AT&T (who together have more than
200 million customers) all provided telephone records to the NSA. One source told USA Today, “It’s the
largest database ever assembled in the world,” and added that the NSA’s
goal is “to create a database of every call ever made”.
While the NSA isn’t listening in to these phone calls, what
they are doing is keeping records on who’s calling who. Clearly this isn’t about suspected terrorist
activity, but is aimed at suppressing dissent and building up a police state
apparatus that can monitor the entire population (without warrants or court
records). This secret database is
contrary to what Bush said the NSA was doing (eavesdropping on conversations
between people in America
and other countries suspected of terrorist activity). In other words, BUSH WAS LYING again, while
blatantly illegal and fascistic actions were being carried out by his orders.
