The European Union has uncovered over 1,000 secret CIA flights in Europe headed to torture chambers, while the CIA is determined to purge and prosecute any of their employees who reveal these war crimes. Under the rubric of the “war on terrorism”, the CIA has set up “black site” prisons around the world where detainees are tortured behind closed walls. Their practice of “rendition” has meant sending detainees to countries where torture is openly practiced.
Anyone with any sense of basic morality would let the world know if they found out about torture being carried out by their government, let alone the government agency they work for. But such a stand is grounds for losing your job and criminal prosecution under the Bush regime. CIA employee Mary McCarthy was recently fired for unauthorized contact with reporters and giving away classified information, and could be subject to criminal charges. So exposing torture is considered a crime, while ordering and carrying out torture is okay with this government. The courage of people like McCarthy needs to be supported and used as fuel for a movement to put a stop to the war crimes being carried out in our names.
The World Can’t Wait! Drive Out the Bush Regime!
