City Officials & Protesters To Fundies: Go Home
With
more than 25,000 teenage evangelicals and fundamentalist leaders
planning to invade San Francisco with their ‘Battle Cry’ against ‘the
terrorism of pop culture,’ it didn’t take long for queer and social
activists to rally their forces and protest against this verbal assault
against our family values. Word quickly spread that this group believed
in ongoing wars against Muslim countries and recruiting youth as
‘Christian soldiers,’ not to mention their anti-gay, anti-choice,
anti-sex principles with intent to enact laws against gay rights and
women’s reproductive freedom. Within days the activists of San
Francisco organized a powerful rally on the City Hall steps at noon on
March 24, just hours before the fundies were to hold their
demonstration on the very same steps. The City had already passed a
resolution condemning their ‘act of provocation’ by what it named an
‘anti-gay,’ ‘anti-choice’ organization with intent to ‘negatively
influence the politics of America’s most tolerant and progressive
city.’
