“Today, there is a similar crisis, and the removal of the Bush
administration from power, putting impeachment on the agenda, putting
withdrawal on the agenda, is a matter of saving lives, American and
Iraqi lives. In this developing situation, students can play a critical
role, as they have at other times in history. My hope is that students
will join the actions taking place around the State of the
to demonstrate that the state of the union is perilous with this
administration in charge, and the Bush cabal which has taken power must
be compelled to step down.”
– Howard Zinn’s Message to Students
On Nov.2nd students across the country flooded to the frontlines of
a movement aimed at driving out the Bush and defied heavy repression at
schools and campuses to take part in changing the course of
history. The future of the planet was at stake. It still is
and now the stakes are higher. Nov.2nd was a real beginning, but
you can only have a beginning once. We must escalate our
determination, reach and burst forward with an explosion of NOISE on
the 31st.
People around the globe in the tens
of thousands took heart and were inspired by the students who walked
out on Nov.2nd and were a catalyst for more to step out in calling for
the Bush Regime to be driven from power.
Bring the Noise!
Jan.31st we are calling for students to not go to school and BE IN THE STREETS,
making a big push for people not to go home that night and take part in
drowning out Bush’s State of the Union address. This is not a
question of “protesting your school”, this is a question of whether or
not Bush’s Agenda will be repudiated and the people in their millions
stop this regime’s disastrous course towards a fascist theocracy.
(1)Set Plans and convergence locations of where students can meet up before and after school starts.
(2)Broadly popularize the meet up spots. Create a mass
movement of emails with meet up spots and the plans for the State of the Union
Emergency Protests that night. Get it on elists. Email to a
list and ask each person to email it to their list. Post up meet
up info on web forums, My Space accounts and blogs.
(3)Organize people to be at schools when
students arrive in the morning and leave that afternoon. “Join Us, Join
Us! Take part in History Be at (whatever the location is) tonight to
drown out Bush’s State of the Union Speech and demand Bush Step
Down. We are in a State of Emergency, electrify the town today”.
Have whistles, drums, banners, stickers, flyers. Be creative in
coming up with plans. The day should reflect a culture of
resistance and conquering spirit linked up with driving out this regime.
From Every Generation should have a Mission – Ours is to Drive out the Bush Regime:
“‘The point is we need to all pull together now, whether through big
or small actions, to mobilize for the State of the Union Protests on
the 31st and in DC Feb. 4th.
Be an unavoidable force that day. Speak an undeniable truth that day.
Electrify
the city and call on people to organize others to ACT now and protest
that night. Pull people from the train stations and bus stops, their
work place, the parking lots and business strips. Green and black
everywhere: Bush Step Down.
Many can be moved on an emergency footing this week, that day, that evening, that hour.”
