Every Generation Should Have a Mission – Ours is to Drive Out the Bush Regime

– Allen Lang, National Student and Youth Organizer

Where will you be January 31st?

Where will you be February 4th?

These are the questions millions of people need to be
asking and ‘In the streets and in DC’ needs to be the answer for a
nation in a State of Emergency…

On January 31st, all day, we will boldly step out and call
on people to join us that night and demand Bush Step Down and take his
program with him.

Everyday we are bludgeoned with lies and we learn or are
forced to accept the new atrocity, the new normalcy.  A
manufactured mandate for acts that shock our conscience.

Alito.  The end of abortion.  Intelligent design.

Millions of people hate this, but you couldn’t tell that watching the nightly news.

School police posted at the front doors.  Military
recruiters posted at the back doors.  A future of tombstones and
prison bars, military chaplains and televised torture.  Black
hooded men handcuffed to fences, U.S fighter planes pouring white
phosphorus over Iraqi villages and everybody knows about Katrina GODDAMN.

You hate this.  People in your class hate this and
don’t even want to imagine the horrors we face if the Bush Regime is
able to lock its fascist agenda into place.  Across the country
and throughout society people feel this in their gut and are going to
have to live with it unless we make a stand in DC on February 4th.

If you’ve never organized a protest, now is the time to start.

If you’ve never been to DC, get your ticket and get on the
bus.  Bring your parents with you, bring your friends, the people
you work with, folks from church.

Even if you’ve marched and demonstrated and picketed in
D.C. before, there has never been a moment and organized movement with
a demand like this before.  There is no middle ground: you either
act now or you are complicit with crimes against humanity.

This regime is in trouble and this regime is cut-throat vicious. In a State of Emergency
you can begin turning the tide, but only with tens of thousands of
people at the gates of the White House; indicting this regime as
criminal and delivering a demand for Bush to Step Down.  What will
it mean if the day after the State of the Union
address for all the local newspapers and national media to report on
massive gatherings of people demanding Bush Step Down and drowning out
his lies? What if it doesn’t happen?

The stakes are high and the level of opposition we mount
with our demand will be decisive in this turning point of
history.  This is the demand that every force in society must be
compelled to respond to and this demand needs to become a reality.

Look at what has developed in the past few days.

CNN runs a news story on Hollywood celebrities calling for
Bush to Step Down, U.S. Representatives
Cynthia McKinney and Bobby Rush sign a call to Drive Out the Bush Regime, World Can’t Wait organizers are giving class room
presentations on the Southside of Chicago and a World Can’t Wait chapter
springs up at the University of Mississippi.

Al
Gore warns “If the President has the inherent authority to eavesdrop,
imprison citizens on his own declaration, kidnap and torture, then what can’t
he do?’.  Georgetown law students turn their back in
protest of a speaking engagement by architect of torture Attorney General
Alberto Gonzales and people are just itching for the Democrats to do something.
Anything.

The Importance of Nov.2nd

We
launched a movement to drive out the Bush Regime on Nov.2nd.  An
unprecedented outpouring of High School students walked out against
serious repression and college students boldly marched through their
campus to signal the birth of a new movement aimed at unseating the
present regime.  This was significant and inspired people here and
around the world.  Nov.2nd was a real beginning but will recede
back into obscurity unless we escalate our determination and step it up
to force Bush to step down.  If you came out on the 2nd and went
back to the same ol’ routine; take this next week to go all out in
mobilizing for the State of the Union Protests.

Jan.31st ( No School ( National Student Mobilization

January 31st don’t go to school.  Don’t go to
work.  Set up spots to meet up in the morning and blanket your
town with flyers and stickers.  Green and black everywhere: Bush
Step Down.  Publicize stores and establishments where people can
pick up flyers, posters and stickers.  Have whistles and
drums.  Parades of resistance snaking through downtown and
campus.  Go back to school when it lets out and call on students
to take part in building for the protests that night.  ‘Join
Us) Change the course of history in the streets tonight and demand Bush
Step Down’ should radiate from crews of youth all day on the
31st.  Call up radio shows announcing the plans for that
night.  Any teacher or professor who cares about their students’
future should support and promote the protests on the 31st.

The
point is we need to all pull together now, whether through big or small
actions, to mobilize for the State of the Union Protests on the 31st
and in DC Feb. 4th.

Be an unavoidable force that day.  Speak an undeniable truth that day.

Electrify the city and call on people to organize others to
ACT now and protest that night. Pull people from the train stations and
bus stops, their work place, the parking lots and business strips.
Green and black everywhere: Bush Step Down.

Many can be moved on an emergency footing this week, that day, that evening, that hour.

Join us, Join Us! The World Can’t Wait!

Check out NYC Youth and Students vision for the day.
