New Talking Points for Class Presentations- Mobilizing for Jan 31st and Feb 4th
1. Quickly go over the ‘Your government’ points from the Call, and have some examples ready from recent events in the news of how things it lays out are happening every day. Pick examples that are speak sharply and with substance to the big things going on in the world that people are really outraged over.
Read the ” If You Want the Bum Impeached” editorial in speaking about Impeachment in class. This is a big question, people want to know what we have to say about impeachment when we talk about the demand BUSH STEP DOWN and take your program with you.
As an example: for ‘Your government enforces a culture of greed, bigotry, intolerance and ignorance,’ you could point to something like the law that was passed on Dec.16th that makes it a federal crime to assist (including by saving the life of) ‘illegal’ immigrants.
2. Emphasize that there is a movement to actually force Bush to STEP DOWN(this is very key–and that, because of all that is concentrated in the ‘Your government’ points, nothing less than this can meet the challenge we face.
3. Say in a couple sentences what happened around the country on November 2nd.
5. Concisely lay out what is planned in your area for January 31st and what will be going on in DC on February 4th.
6. Point out that these actions being truly massive is the only thing that can prevent the Bush regime from getting back on their feet in the face of scandals, low approval ratings, etc., and moving ahead with their drive to remake the world. When Bush comes before the world to lay out his plans for the year in his State of the Union, our side calling on him to step down must be the thing everyone has to respond to.
7. Announce upcoming local plans that people can get involved in, places they can get flyers, meeting times and places.
8. Allow as much time as possible for discussion; if you’re allowed a short amount of time, it might be necessary to shorten the presentation.
