Confirmation hearings for Alito to the Supreme Court begin Monday,
Jan. 9. Alito is a hand-picked Bush nomination, with approval from
theocratic Christian fundamentalists. The views and intention of
“Scalito” are clear: overturning Roe vs. Wade, rolling back the clock
on civil rights, gay rights, and women’s rights, support for unchecked
executive authority to carry out endless war and implement a police state. In
what promises to be a tumultous month, with the NSA spying just
revealed, the Patriot Act up for renewel, the Padilla case going to the
Supreme Court, and Bush having unforseen challenges carrying out his
unjust war on Iraq, any of the Bush regime’s moves need to be opposed
and stopped. And, all these needs to build momentum for the protests
demanding BUSH STEP DOWN all across the country during his state of the
union address (Jan. 31), and in Washington DC on Feb. 4.
Here are some suggestions of ways to oppose Alito’s rubber-stamp approval to the Supreme Court:
–BLOODY MONDAY – January 9, 2006
Does the prospect of Samuel Alito joining a Supreme Court already
populated by some of the most extreme right-wing ideologues in the
country disturb you??
Pin on a white patch stained with red on Monday, January 9.
As the Alito confirmation hearings begin, women and men all across the
country will wear bloody patches in protest of what will surely be in
store if Alito ascends to the Supreme Court. The inspiration for this
action comes from three young women from World Can’t Wait-Drive Out the
Bush Regime who disrupted a pro-Alito press conference on Thursday,
shouting, “Bush and Alito will outlaw abortion and women will die!”
This action got covered on CSPAN, and in the Washington Post, among other
media.
Alito is not only determined to outlaw abortion (and has been making
legal arguments for this since the early 80s) he is hellbent on
extending executive authority, allowing strip searches of 10-year-olds,
and transforming the law of the land to correspond to a modern-day
theocracy.
Who will stop him? Who will force Bush to STEP DOWN?
–volunteer in DC with World Can’t Wait – Drive Out the
Bush regime. Build for the upcoming protest during and after the state
of the union, and mobilize against each step the Bush regime takes
implementing its program.
-On Monday, 1/9, as the Alito hearings
begin, hold protests at federal buildings or downtown squares all where
ever you are. Make banners like “Bush: step down, and take Alitio with
you!”. Demand that Alito not become another fascist on the Supreme
Court, and build for the state of the union protests at the end of the
month.
