“Your government enforces a culture of greed, bigotry, intolerance and ignorance.”
Today’s Reason to Drive Out the Bush Regime:
In
utter hipocricy, the Bush administration has threatened to sue Southern
Illinois Univeristy (SIU) for discrimintating against whites and males,
and is even using the Civil Rights Act to provide a legal basis for its
claims! The US Justice Department sent a letter to SIU demanding
it end fellowship programs designed to increase the number of minority
graduate students. Currently, only 8% of SIU’s graduate students are
black or Latino.
The Justice Department said “The University has
engaged in a pattern or practice of intentional discrimination against
whites, non-preferred minorities and males.”
In addition, the “Center for Equal Opportunity,” an anti-affirmative
action organization, reported on LIU to the Justice Department, as part
of their right-wing crusade to dismantle the gains of the civil rights
movement. This is another case of flipping reality on its head.
After 5 years of the Bush regime, the Justice Department Civil
Rights Division prosecutes 40% less civil rights cases, and has often
spent more time fighting against appeals of deportation orders from
immigrants the Bush regime has rounded up to be deported since 9/11.
This “Civil Rights Division” also approved a program in Georgia
reminiscent of Jim Crow, in which voters would be required to show
government-issued ID cards at the polls.
This latest outrageous
attack on SIU comes after the reality of racism, discrimination, and
inequality was so starkly revealed in New Orleans by the Bush regime’s
mass murder by criminal neglect. We cannot allow history to be turned
back, or turned, as the Call for World Can’t Wait says “in fascist way,
and for generations to come.” Instead, we must change the course of
history.
The World Can’t Wait! Drive Out the Bush Regime!
