Thousands Of Students Mobilize
(CBS) NEW YORK Thousands of protesters mobilized in Manhattan Wednesday to
rally against polices of the Bush administration. The group 'The World
Can't Wait' organized the peaceful march of mostly high school students,
who walked from Union Square to Times Square in Manhattan.
Marchers chanted, 'Join us, join us, the world can't wait. Drive out the
Bush regime.'
Elected officials Deborah Glick, Margarita Lopez and Tom Duane reportedly
attended the event. The organization also reported that among the
protesters, 70 students from high schools on Long Island received 3-day
suspensions for leaving school to participate in the march. Other students
from area high schools reportedly received similar treatment.
New York City Police Department officers monitored the peaceful march.
Similar marches were held on Wednesday in Washington, D.C., Atlanta,
Chicago and Berkeley, Calif.
