Queers To Join Mass Demo
Queers will be walking out of our jobs and leaving work early to join the millions expected to mobilize on Nov. 2 for the “World Can’t Wait” mass anti-war, anti-Bush demos that will be taking place throughout the country.
Locally, the rally will assemble at noon at Civic Center and proceed down Market at 1pm (complete schedule below). Although a permit has been denied at this point by the SF Police Department, the matter will be going before the Board of Supes for a vote. Queer board member Tom Ammiano is a supporter of the rally and march as is State Assemblymember Mark Leno. Queers should look for the “Queers for Peace and Justice” banner at the Civic Center. Groups are encouraged to bring banners and signs.
Said queer anti-war activist Tommi Avicolli Mecca, “Queers want an end to the Bush regime as much as everyone else. We want to stop the immoral and insane war and re-direct our country’s priorities to what they should be: Affordable housing, national healthcare, living-wage jobs for all, and an end to hunger and poverty. Working-class and poor people, including working-class and poor queers, need these things. It’s time to make them happen!”
Morning Assembly Points: 10 AM San Francisco City College, 10 AM San Francisco State University Malcolm X Plaza.
MAIN RALLY: 12 PM, Civic Center Plaza, San Francisco, Rally until 1 PM. March at 1PM.
END RALLY: 4:30 PM Civic Center Plaza. At 7 PM join with the “Dia de Los Muertos” procession at 24th and Bryant St.
