The indictment of Irving “Scooter” Libby yesterday barely scratches the
surface of an illegitimate, illegal and utterly immoral war consciously
built on lies. And now the pundits are already talking about a plea
bargain to “spare the nation” the supposed ordeal of having the full
story come out, and even talking about how Karl Rove is “off the hook.”
Can we allow the war criminals responsible for the carnage in Iraq to
get “off the hook?” Can we sit back now and “let things take their
course” – which can only mean allowing this administration to bolt more
firmly into place their agenda of world domination abroad and a fascist
reconfiguration of society within the U.S.? Bush and Cheney have
already shown, through their responses yesterday, that they are going
to press forward even more determinedly now.
The indictment of
Libby is like a crack in their facade. Do we let them mend the crack,
which could even enable them to knit it back more strongly? Or do we
act decisively – NOW – to split it open further?
The choice is ours. Take these next few days and put everything you have in November 2.
