Rise Up October: 3 Days of Righteous Protest Against Police Terror

This year October 22, 23, and 24 were days of resistance against police murder, brutality and terror in New York City as family members of people killed by police traveled from around the country to speak the names of their loved ones and demand justice for all those murdered by police, and an end to this terror once and for all. World Can't Wait was proud to represent at the marches and by supporting the movement in advance by raising more than $8,000 to cover family travel expenses.

Raising $1,000 from Friends at a House Party for Rise Up October

If you DON'T get involved in the National Mobilization in New York City on October 24, 2015, you have, by default, chosen a side. I realize that you may not be able to pick up and get to New York, but there is something you CAN do. I was asked by a friend to host a small fundraising gathering at my apartment. The parameters for the event were simple. I would select friends and acquaintances who might or might not know about the upcoming event in NYC. The invitations were sent to only my selected quests.

Stop the War on Yemen: San Francisco Protests

Yemen-protest-SF-2015On May 16 in San Francisco, World Can’t Wait joined a protest demonstration of 200 people to demand Stop the War on Yemen.  Members of the Yemeni community in the Bay Area (one of the largest in the U.S.) organized this street march and rally ”calling on all to support their struggle for self determination against foreign intervention and imperialist wars” and welcomed everyone.

Hands Off Yemen Chicagp ProtestWorld Can’t Wait Chicago joined a coalition of other organizations and concerned individuals on April 25 to condemn the U.S.-backed Saudi Arabian war on Yemen now underway. Called on short notice, it was good to see 50-75 people with banners and signs saying “Hands Off Yemen” and “Saudi Rulers Are War Criminals” and “No U.S. Intervention.”

Protesting at Creech air force base in NevadaAir force bases for drones are sprinkled around the U.S. but the largest is Creech AFB, near Las Vegas, a key center for drone control, and for training of drone operators. Opponents of targeted killing by the U.S. in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Yemen, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Somalia have gathered at Creech this week to demand its end.

Why is General Petraeus Afraid of Being Questioned?

The evening of October 30, at the 92nd Street & in Manhattan — which has a reputation for being a center of culture and freedom of expression — Ray McGovern (the outspoken anti-war activist and former CIA analyst) was confronted by name and denied entry to an event where General David Petraeus was speaking.  Very quickly after being blocked by 92nd Street Y security, Ray was injured by the NYPD, arrested, held overnight in Central Booking (formerly known as The Tombs), and charged with "criminal trespass" in the third degree, and "resisting arrest."
