Trump Rally: Blinded by The Light

Mike Hastie, Army Medic Viet Nam | September 30, 2020

hastie 2On Saturday September 26, 2020, I attended the Trump Rally in Portland, Oregon. The rally was held in Delta Park, which is located off of Interstate 5, about two miles from the bridge that crosses over to Vancouver, Washington. A far-right group, the Proud Boys, which is a national organization of about 20,000 members, was the organizer of the gathering. The Oregonian newspaper mentioned in an article that day that possibly 10,000 people might be in attendance. The attendance was later estimated at about 500 plus people. I think many people did not show up because the mayor of Portland, Ted Wheeler, and Governor Kate Brown had put the word out that they would not tolerate any violence from that group because there was a counter protest being held at Peninsula Park, about three miles away.

Withdraw Your Endorsement

Debra Sweet | November 1, 2016

One week away from the election, it's more clear than ever that the "choice" between a proven war criminal and a fascist patriarch is no choice at all. As we've been saying, the change we need is not on the ballot! World Can't Wait is looking beyond next Tuesday — we're in the streets now telling people now more than ever it's up to us to stop the suffering that this government has and is inflicting on the rest of the world.

Hillary Clinton’s National Security Advisers Are a “Who’s Who” of the Warfare State

Zaid Jilani, Alex Emmons, and Naomi LaChance with The Intercept | September 26, 2016

hillarywhoswhoThe list of key advisers — which includes the general who executed the troop surge in Iraq and a former Bush homeland security chief turned terror profiteer — is a strong indicator that Clinton’s national security policy will not threaten the post-9/11 national-security status quo that includes active use of military power abroad and heightened security measures at home.

The Terrible Error of Sarah Palin
Commentary and Panel from On The Issues Magazine

In the Fall edition of On The Issues Magazine on "What is Terror for Women," publisher Merle Hoffman penned an essay, Sarah Palin and the Apocalypse.

On October 20 in New York, a panel of writers on Christian fundamentalism co-sponsored by On The Issues Magazine and The World Can't Wait -- Drive Out the Bush Regime expanded on the dangers that Sarah Palin represents.  Their comments, carried more fully in the The Café of On The Issues Magazine.com provide powerful insights:

Kathryn Joyce (author of Quiverfull: Inside the Christian Patriarchy Movement):

On the day she was announced, Janice Crouse of Concerned Women for America released a statement saying: "Take that, feminists - here is a woman of accomplishment who brings a fresh face to traditional values and models the type of woman most girls want to become. For years, the feminist movement has acknowledged for leadership only those women who embrace a radical agenda. How refreshing that we have a woman who reflects the values of mainstream American women, pro-life, pro-marriage and pro-family."

Raising Our Sights, Shouldering Our Responsibilities

by Dennis Loo

Yesterday the major party vice-presidential candidates held their "debate." What did we hear? We got a script-reciting Christian fascist posing as a reformer and a fascist-enabler posing as a change agent. The same man who, as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, blocked other women from testifying who would have supported Anita Hill's allegations against Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas, the same man whose party warns us of the dire consequences on the Supreme Court if the GOP wins, the same man who contributed mightily to the rush to war on Iraq, the same man who has for thirty-five years done the bidding of the rich and powerful, now wants our endorsement.
