Thousands of us are marching in the streets today – but no matter where you are you can be donating to support the resistance!
What has this war meant for the people of Iraq? Despite 7 years of "shock & awe" for the people of Iraq, their nightmare of US invasion is not over… 7 years of bombs and home-raids, repeated massacres of whole families.
One of the speakers at the Chicago protest was Fatma Hindi, a former professor of journalism at the University of Baghdad and now an Iraqi refugee working with the Refugee Center for Hope in Chicago:
"I have not [got anything] to say because I want to scream, because I want to cry," said Hindi,whose sister’s family in Iraq was killed in an explosion two weeks ago and who was herself both kidnapped and raped before finding a safe haven in Chicago. "I want to thank you so much because you are here with me now."
The war and occupation of Afghanistan was never justified & must end also. ONLY the people can do this; only through mass visible protest, not hemmed in to official politics can we bring these horrors to a halt. In doing so, we give heart to the people of Iraq & Afghanistan and all over the world. These wars are being carried out in our names and it is our responsibility to stop them.
Saturday should be a day that we begin to puncture the paralysis and the lies. The disappointment & outrage must be correctly channeled into street protests to stop these crimes. This weekend we can launch an anti-war offensive, we can revitalize, strengthen and grow this urgently needed resistance. We can do this; but only with you. We can mark a new beginning…
Join us in the streets and make the most important act of resistance: donate to the We Are Not Your Soldiers tour. We have vets ready to speak, students and teachers who want us to come, but can’t get on the road without funds. $10,000 is needed for organizing materials, advertising, travel, lodging, and stipends for vets.
Imagine if military recruiters were reluctant to walk onto a high school campus… if the centers of recruiting were shut down – driven from the ghettos and the barrios… a new generation taking to the streets chanting, "We will not kill and die for empire," and inspiring others to join them.
