“’One of the reasons these techniques have been used for about 500 years is that they work,’ [Senator Lindsay] Graham said on May 13 in the latest Republican justification of Bush’s authorization of tactics such as forced nudity, sleep deprivation, painful stress positions and the near-drowning of waterboarding."
Sen. Graham (S. Carolina – R) is touting the virtues of the Spanish Inquisition!
So it comes to this: a leading Republican is now openly saying approvingly that they are doing what Torquemada, the infamous Spanish inquisitor, did to the unbelievers – using torture.
The difference is that Torquemada made no secret of the fact that what he was doing was in fact, torture. Our very own GOP, on the other hand, continues to claim that their "enhanced interrogation techniques" aren’t torture.
Sen. Graham, by the way, along with Sen. Joe Lieberman, was lobbying Obama hard to prevent the release of the incriminating photographs.
Is there any more graphic evidence than this that these leaders are moral monsters who must be swept aside by a tidal wave of public indignation and demands for justice?
