To the Spanish people:
On April 16th, the Obama administration released four infamous Bush Regime “torture memos” that justified and orchestrated the torture of named individuals in horrendous detail. All persons of conscience consider open torture by the United States not only immoral but wrong on every level.
At the same time, President Obama said that his administration would not prosecute those who did the torture. His administration clarified that they also will not prosecute the war criminals responsible for the legal memos justifying and resulting in torture. This is intolerable and inexcusable.
We, the undersigned, are asking the people of Spain to continue in the struggle to bring all those who are responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity to justice. We must all stand together in the fight to protect others from harm as perpetrated by individuals in the United States upon innocent people around the world, for now and for the future of our children.
We condemn these acts of torture and violence in our names. We will not silently stand by and watch while international standards of morality are being violated and the perpetrators walk free.
We pledge to continue to build in the United States a mass movement that demands prosecution. Indictment in Spain will help create an atmosphere of intolerance for war criminals, making prosecution in the United States more possible. We salute the people of Spain for your role in this world-wide struggle!
no question, we condemn those who created and directly carried out that which was described in the torture memos….
its is literally immoral to then give those who literally violated the US constituion and all that our declaration of independence stands for and states, expressly…not too mention international law, …to not be subjected to serious review and prosecution…..
its dangerous in fact, to send such a signal to the world, that the worlds leader in so called democracy, will allow such standards to be so seriously and willfully violated and then take such a human rights stand, anywhere in the world, against any amount of other nation’s or groups or leaders abuse of their own citizens or their detainees…
how can the present “change” administration even begin to cut a deal, in the name of “moving on”….
if so, what happens, every day, inside any criminal court in these U.S. crinminal justice system is a travesty and itself an injustice, in many cases and instances, wherein we often send firt time, non violent offenders and second offenders, to lengthy prison sentences….in the U.S…..
what do we as a nation truly value and stand for? “…all men…are creaetd equal and have been endowed by their Creator, with certain inalienable rights…
what ever would happen to the Virginians’ world impacting legal sentence, that literally changed the course of mankind…in our modern era…
….finally…i have to truly wonder, obn this night that my father a d day veteran who saw so much suffering and death and dying and maiming, in the beaches of Normandy and well beyond…
what truly …as he lays very very ill, is thinking of what exactly did they fight that fight for freedom for, if its to only end, in a wimper and few released govt memos by a liberal administration claiming so much and doing so little about it…
…..the midwest center for constitutional rights stands with the demand for justice for these serious violations of our nation and the international protocals for serious enforcement of human rights violations around the world…and …right here in the U.S. starting with our own nation’s leaders and officials who created, condoned and/or participated in such serious tactics which violate the most basic of our nation’s common law heritage and our national constitutional standards, as they are viewed in a modern era….
