Taxi to the Dark Side is an important and vital documentary film by director Alex Gibney, recently nominated for an Academy Award. The film’s title comes from an infamous statement by Vice President Dick Cheney: “We also have to work through ” the dark side ” its going to be vital for us to use any means at our disposal, basically, to achieve our objective.”
As the web site for the movie says, “By probing the homicide of an
innocent taxi driver at the Bagram Air Force Base in Afghanistan, the
film exposes a worldwide policy of detention and interrogation that
condones torture and the abrogation of human rights. This disturbing
and often brutal film is the most incisive examination to date of the
Bush Administration’s willingness, in its prosecution of the “war on
terror”, to undermine the essence of the rule of law. The film asks and
answers a key question: what happens when a few men expand the war time
powers of the executive to undermine the very principles on which the
United States was founded”.
Everyone should see this movie – and urge everyone you know to see it.
And ask yourself – are you doing everything possible to put an end to
these monstrous crimes being committed by the Bush Regime in the name
of our “security” and “freedom”.
